Great Answer
I'm a realtor in Northbrook so I'll give you the honest rundown. For families it's really hard to beat. The schools in District 28 feed into Glenbrook North, which is consistently one of the top public high schools in the state. Park District is absurdly active too, my kids basically live there between soccer, swimming, and all the summer camps. Real talk on the money side though. Property taxes are not cheap. You're looking at roughly 2.2 to 2.4% of home value, so on a $600K house that's $13-14K a year. That catches a lot of people off guard. Median home price right now is somewhere in the $500-625K range depending on which part of town. West side near Techny you'll get bigger lots for less. Closer to downtown Northbrook near Shermer Rd is more walkable but you're paying for it. Metra into the city is about 40-45 min which is totally doable. Inventory has been tight lately, maybe 60-70 homes on market at any given time which is low for a town this size. So if you see something you like, don't sit on it too long. One thing people don't always think about, the restaurant scene on Dundee Rd has gotten surprisingly good in the last few years. You're not going to starve out here. Happy to answer anything else, this is literally my backyard.Example Replies to Comments
Reply to "Northbrook is boring"
Ha, I mean it's not Lincoln Park. But if you've got kids the Park District basically runs your social life. And honestly the restaurant scene on Dundee Rd has gotten way better in the last couple years. It's a different vibe but it's there.Reply to wrong tax rate
Just a heads up that number is a bit low for Northbrook. Effective rate is closer to 2.2-2.4% depending on your neighborhood and assessment year. On a $600K home you're budgeting $13-14K a year. Definitely worth factoring in.Comparing suburbs
Both solid picks. Glenview has the edge on proximity to the lake and District 34 is great, but Arlington Heights has way more going on downtown. Depends on what matters more to you day to day.Account Setup â–¼

Ground Rules â–¼
1No self-promotion in comments. Profile link is enough.
2Disclose you're a realtor early. Reddit respects transparency.
3Don't copy/paste the same answer across threads. Tailor each one.
4Don't create fake questions. Reddit can smell it.
5If someone asks for a realtor rec directly, it's OK to say you'd be happy to help.
6Don't get into arguments. Just don't respond.
72-3 quality answers per week plus a few quick replies. That's plenty.
8Use town names, school names, neighborhoods naturally. This is what Google and AI pick up on.
9Don't post and ghost. Check back for follow-ups. Engagement signals matter.
